the30something is a philanthropic group of people who live in and love Silver City. As a group we want to make a significant difference in our town while we are still alive rather than just giving money to organizations in our wills. We have all been supporters of many different nonprofits over the years but feel that if we band together and each give $1000 every year, we can help several organizations every year to do a big project that they would find almost impossible to do through normal fundraising channels.
I came up with the name for “the30something” because, as a longtime member of Virus Theater and a member of their marketing committee, we were in a quandary about raising money for an HVAC system so that the theater could be rented out and become self-sustaining. Virus Theater had some funds but with a bid for $42,000 they needed 30 something thousand dollars to make this dream for the El Sol Theater a reality.
We now have many nonprofits applying for the $30,000 each year, and each year the members get to vote to select the awardees….in 2022 the membership voted to give three $30,000 awards for a total of $90,000!
My hope is that everyone who has committed to be a part of this philanthropic group will meet every year for a catered event to award the money to that year’s winners and enjoy a celebration of each other and all we have done to enrich the lives of all the people of Silver City and Grant County for many years to come.
We have set up a donor advised fund under the Grant County Community Foundation’s umbrella called “the30something“. When you send your checks to them, they will send you a tax-deductible receipt and notify us so we can thank you personally, put you on our email membership list, send you the voting materials, and invite you to the party!

FOUNDING AGREEMENTS
1. the30something money must be used for something permanent . . . Something physical.
2. the30something money must be used for something that will enrich the lives of the people of Silver City/Grant County.
3. the30something money must be used for something that will attract people who want to either move here or visit here.
4. Households of the30something have agreed to pledge a donation of $1000 every year by the predetermined date each year to be able to vote and attend the annual party.
